The Gabby Jack Ranch Story

Two-year-old Ezra was born limb-deficient. He had already successfully weathered many medical procedures preparing him for his next big challenge; to fly to NYC where surgeons would amputate one of Ezra’s legs and attach one of his toes to Ezra's hand.

Ezra’s mother, in her concern for Ezra’s emotional needs as well as those physical, sought out Jacque Reynolds because she had heard that, as a dog breeder, Jacque often donated dogs to special needs children. Coincidentally, at the same time Jacque was looking to place Yazmin, a service-trained adult Labradoodle. Within three weeks Yazmin and Ezra arrived at Boston’s Children Hospital where hospital staff celebrated the unique and very non-traditional ways that Yazmin’s presence facilitated Ezra’s recovery.

Ezra is the reason that the Gabby Jack Ranch was founded; Ezra and other disabled and special needs individuals have received canine companions from Jacque and many others are seeking dogs to train. Traditional service and guide dog organizations often disqualify people like Ezra because of age or because of the nature of his disability. Even when a client does qualify for these programs, costs, training protocol and wait lists are prohibitive.

The Gabby Jack Ranch reaches out to individuals with "invisible" disabilities as well as mobility challenges. We have found that our breeding program creates puppies that are uniquely sensitive to unspoken challenges and that their loving nature, warm and welcoming expressions help to comfort those who suffer.

Jacque Reynolds is drawn to the philosophy and science of Human-Animal Interaction. Paramount to each of our placements is the importance of careful consideration for the benefit to the client-puppy team.  The puppy needs a loving human bond. In turn, the client's life situation, physical and psychological health will improve as the human-animal connection grows.

At the Gabby Jack Ranch, we embrace recent scientific studies that accept animals as emotional, cognitive, sentient beings. Our puppies are raised, nurtured and protected so that they grow up to be confident, sensitive, social members of their families and the communities in which they live.

We place our puppies in homes where they will be honored and cared for. This creates, in the puppies, a genuine love for human interaction and socialization. They strive to understand their place in the partnership and they excel in their role as service companions. Using only positive reinforcement and operant conditioning, the client is able to focus on training the puppy to efficiently master tasks related specifically to the client's personal lifestyle. This training builds a foundation which incrementally builds throughout the lifetime of the partners and enables the client to continue working on canine skill development as their lives and circumstances change over time.

Our focus is on the developing skills that enhance communication between species. We direct the clients and help them select positive reinforcement training for their puppy. We instruct our client families so that they will become more aware, watchful and cognizant of the amazing ways that their puppy will communicate with them.

The Gabby Jack goal is to match a puppy to the recipient at the puppy's early age so that client/puppy bonding takes place. Early bonding, we believe, encourages training for the team and builds a solid foundation for life-long growth, mutual respect and cooperation.

The Gabby Jack Ranch is building a unique business protocol in stages. Taking advantage of our experience in matching and early placement, we continue to carefully match quality puppies with appropriate clients.

Instead of a brick and mortar location for all dog training, we will place puppies with clients in order to facilitate bonding and communication. We offer support and suggestions regarding training goals and philosophies.

When funding is available, we anticipate expanding our program to meet the more intense training needs of our clients. Then, using the unique training philosophy developed by Gabby Jack Ranch professionals, our capable and willing clients will be empowered to train their dogs, in their homes; Gabby Jack Ranch expects to take advantage of modern technology and the Internet to directly reach our clients, in their homes, where they will have web access to our training staff.

We look forward to continued growth, placing a greater number of service dogs and perfecting innovative methods to approach the commitment we have made to our dogs and to our clients.
